Injectable Fillers

When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry or tired. Dermal fillers can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, they can also erase these marks of aging, leaving you looking younger and refreshed.

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved and safe for use by most patients. Many of the fillers are made from substances found naturally in the body, or synthetically made to mimic natural substances or stimulate collagen production. These fillers are injected directly into the skin of the targeted area to restore volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At West Linn Plastic Surgery, we offer patients several different dermal filler options in order to provide the best possible results for their individual needs.

BOTOX®

BOTOX injections are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles through minimally invasive injections. These injections are made from botulinum toxin A, a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent approved by the FDA for several different uses. When injected into the skin, it can block the nerve muscles that are responsible for the repetitive actions that cause fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing them away for a younger and more refreshed appearance.

After treatment, the appearance of your wrinkles begins to improve within 24 hours, with full results developing gradually over the next five days. Most patients achieve their desired results after just one injection, although additional treatment sessions may be required in the future. The results of BOTOX injections typically last up to four months, with some patients reporting results lasting up to a full year.

Dysport®

DYSPORT is an FDA-approved injection used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX®, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport injections are made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, the same protein used in Botox injections.

Dysport injections are ideal for nearly anyone wishing to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face and restore a younger, more refreshed appearance. The injections are administered directly into the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other wrinkles; these injections are generally painless, with no need for anesthesia. Treatment sessions typically take less 15 minutes, and are administered at six-week intervals. Three to five injections are usually required to achieve desired results.

Dysport injections are generally safe, although there are certain risks associated with any procedure. These risks include soreness and bruising for several hours after treatment, an allergic reaction or ptosis (droopiness of the eyelid). The risk of complications can be reduced by choosing a qualified physician for your procedure.

Xeomin®

XEOMIN injections are for intramuscular use, and are used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines in adults. Xeomin contains botulinum toxin type A, a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  When you squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold.  Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.  These injections act on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting.  By reducing these contractions, Xeomin can temporarily reduce the lines on your forehead between your brows.  The results of Xeomin injections typically last three to four months, but can last significantly longer or shorter in individual patients.

JUVÉDERM®

JUVEDERM Injectable Gel is a safe, effective gel that restores volume to the skin and smoothes away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm is the first FDA-approved dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color. The Juvéderm gel is made of hyaluronic acid with a smooth consistency, allowing for easy injections and instant, natural-looking results. There is no pre-testing needed for this procedure.

Topical or injectable anesthesia may be used during this procedure to numb the treatment area and minimize any potential discomfort. The results of this procedure are available right away and can usually last for up to a year, the longest results available from any hyaluronic acid product.

Restylane®

RESTYLANE is an FDA-approved dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid that restores volume to the skin, lifting and smoothing out wrinkles and other fine lines. This procedure is most commonly used to treat the glabellar lines, between the forehead and the nasolabial folds. It can also be used to add volume and shape to the lips.

Since Restylane is made from a natural substance found in the body, no pre-testing is required. Restylane produces results that last for several months through its unique ability to bind with water and remain in the skin. The results of this procedure are visible right away, and can last for several months, depending on the condition of the individual patient's skin.

Radiesse®

RADIESSE is an FDA-approved volumizing filler for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.  It replenishes the volume your skin has lost with aging.  It provides immediate volume correction, and also stimulates production of your own natural collagen.

The calcium-based microspheres suspended in gel works instatly, resulting in an immediate correction.  After injection, the new collagen tissue is stimulated to produce naturally.  Over time, the gel is absorbed and the calcium-based microspheres are metabolized by the body, leaving behind your own, natural collagen.  The results are clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients.

Belotero Balance®

BELOTERO BALANCE is an FDA-approved dermal filler for the tretment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.  It softens and fills the lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth for a smooth, natural appearance.  The results are instant and are clinically proven to last about 6 months.

Perlane®

PERLANE is an FDA-approved dermal filler used to smooth moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth.  It restores volume and fullness to the skin.  It is composed of hyaluronic acid, which attracks and  binds to water molecules, helping to maintain volume for up to 6 months.  It has a larger molecule used for deeper wrinkles.  It is not approved for the use in lip enhancement.  It is a non-animal based and free from animal protein.  Allergy pre-testing is not necessary.
